Compliance with AD
2008-05-11 Exhaust System Inspection/Repair and SK1072
P-Leads
AD 2008-05-11 (effective April 8, 2008)
was issued by the FAA to provide owners/operators of certain
Bellanca aircraft with detailed exhaust system inspection procedures
and accept/reject criteria, and require installation of Service Kit
SK1072: Rerouting “P” Leads – Magneto.
Our Service Letter B-110: Exhaust System Inspection and
Rerouting Magneto “P” Leads is referenced in the AD and
provides background information, aircraft affected, compliance
information, inspection details, tabulation of part numbers and
other information; it is presented in other parts of this website
for your reference.
If the exhaust system inspection does not find any
defects, the airplane may be returned to service albeit with a 50 hour
exhaust system inspection interval.
If the inspection finds any defects in the
exhaust system, the owner/operator has three options: 1) replace
the entire left and/or right defective exhaust system with new parts
as presented in the Service Letter B110, 2) replace the entire
left and/or right defective exhaust system with parts reconditioned
to the new parts specifications and 3) repair the defective
parts to their original configuration using FAA approved methods and
materials. Options 1
and 2 only eliminate the 50 hour inspection interval if they
are accomplished on both left and right sides.
Option 3 returns the airplane to service albeit with a
50 hour exhaust system inspection interval.
If the owner/operator wants to eliminate the
50 hour inspection interval, he/she has two options: 1) replace
the entire left and right exhaust system with new parts as presented
in the Service Letter B110 or 2) replace the entire left and
right exhaust system with parts reconditioned to the new parts
specifications.
The above option 1 is not available at the
present time. Bellanca / Alexandria
Aircraft LLC (AALLC) has redesigned the exhaust systems for all the
aircraft affected by this AD. This
includes hundred of variations some of which include only a few
aircraft. The expense
for tooling all these variations is simply cost prohibitive.
The best we can do is identify those design variations for
which owners/operators will purchase enough new parts to cover
tooling costs and limit manufacturing parts to same.
You can help us make this determination by contacting our
parts department and indicating same.
The above option 2 is available.
Bellanca/AALLC has contracted with Aerospace
Welding/Manufacturing Inc in Egan MN to recondition parts to the new
design thru their FAA approved repair station.
They are one of our approved vendors.
They have a good quality control system and have provided us
with excellent parts at a reasonable price.
They are the only vendor which has our FAA approved data so
they are the only vendor you can use to recondition your exhaust
system to the option 2 requirements.
You may contact them directly at 800/597-4315.
They will provide you with the documentation you need to
eliminate the 50 hour inspection interval.
